Located South West of Cambridge in a beautiful rural location, we were commissioned to undertake the redesign, project management and soft landscaping installation of the sunken garden and its surrounding spaces for a special family occasion. This area forms part of a much wider mature garden but was in need of renovation and enhancing. The sunken garden started life as a swimming pool area which was now redundant and subsequently the pool was filled in to create this entertaining space. The mature surrounding hedges created a secluded sheltered location bathed in sunshine throughout the day so it offered the ideal location for creating a diverse planting display. Clients were keen to introduce some new materials and ideas in both the hard and soft landscaping which were not seen in other parts of the site, so there was fusion of traditional and contemporary styles with materials such as reclaimed brick, Corten steel, woven steel fencing and tumbled limestone all of which work in harmony together. With the soft landscaping the desire was move way from the traditional country garden feel seen elsewhere on site, so a prairie planting style was adopted which extended the gardens interest into the cooler months. This was a garden that the clients, their family and contractors were heavily invested in to ensure the highest standard of finish which made the process and outcome extremely rewarding.
