Traditional Family Garden – Nr Royston

About This Project

This family home was in a beautiful country position overlooking horse paddocks and woodland, but the garden paving was tired and needed replacing. The house had be extended and featured a stunning kitchen diner area overlooking the garden and fields beyond, so it was crucial that firstly the views were maintained from the house but also the garden was greatly enhanced.

The solution was to create a new dining area with large oak pergola spanning the paving. This required some very large oak beams but this gave the area a fantastic room like feel, with a structure to grow climbing roses. A second more relaxed fire pit and lounging area was created with an oak and western red cedar bench, with a log store below. A range of new planting beds were introduced to give additional colour and help soften the red brick of the house which dominated the view from the garden. New planting was interspersed with existing shrubs, and three ‘Box head’ Hornbeam trees add height and focus views on the fields beyond. As a finishing touch, lighting was added to highlight key features in the garden, all controlled by remote control from the house.
